A funny thing happens when you’re touring Vietnam. You start to notice the same tourist faces in each town you visit. They’re the same people you rode with on the Open Tour buses. They take the same organized tours with you to sand dunes or waterfalls . You’re in a tourist bubble you can’t escape.
For those who can pull themselves away from the coast, heading up to the central highlands is a great way to get away from the tourist trail. Dalat is the jumping off point into the Highlands and the Easy Riders are the way to get there.
85 men strong, the Easy Riders are a group of licensed tour guides that provide one-man tours through Vietnam. For $70/day (y-ouch!) you get an off the beaten track motorcycle ride through the countryside – just you, your guide and your backpack strapped to the motorcycle.
Though it is far over our daily budget, we’ve decided to take a two day tour with them.
It was really the card that sold us. Who wouldn’t want to spend time with the pensive Mr. Bean?
