If you plan a trip to Sapa, arrange to arrive early in the week. We arrived on a Tuesday and found it a peaceful mountain town with plenty of options for shopping, local trekking and relaxing. As the days passed we noticed a dramatic increase in crowds, culminating in densely packed streets on Saturday for the “market”.
Perhaps I’m missing something, but this “market” is just an inflated version of what is available during the weekdays. The wears are the same; there are just more of them. My suggestion: skip the weekend market and come to Sapa mid-week to fully enjoy the relaxed beauty of this temperate mountain town. You won’t regret it – it’s a truly spectacular place.
