We’ve been in Kathmandu for two days now and my first impression is a simple one: color! Rather than the dusty brown of many of the Indian cities we’ve been in lately, this Nepali city is bursting with color.
Granted, we’ve arrived in the middle of Deepawali (Nepal’s festival of lights) so the effect is heightened. Strings of carnations line every doorway, large street mandalas are being made, firecrackers are being let off at a near constant rate and people are making these candle-lined powdered color shapes outside their place of business.
We don’t fully understand whats going on, but the overall effect is really exciting.
