In an effort to drive up traffic to our little website I’ve been checking out other travel blogs – sussing out the competition, you might say. What I found was a bunch of people who were traveling to the similar places, writing about reactions that we’ve written about. And though I think Martin and I are creative geniuses, it got me thinking – why are we doing this?
It’s not for originality. We’re not on expeditions to far off places. No. Our route follows a rather typical backpacker’s trail.
It’s not for the money in it. To date we’ve racked in a whopping $0 from our Google Ad links. Internet entrepreneurial all-stars here at SeatOfOurPants!
I’m happy we do it for personal reasons, of course. Unlike a travel journal, which I’ve kept in the past and is currently rotting away in storage somewhere, the memories of this trip are just a few clicks away. And let’s face it, we’re never going to be that far away from the internet.
When it gets right down to it, I think we blog about our travels because it makes us maintain focus. We wake up every morning and begin our search for interesting things to do – partly to keep up the blog. I’m not saying we’re traveling for the blog, but rather it gives us a good push out the door when the description in a guidebook just isn’t doing it for us.
It will bring neither fame nor fortune, but an occasional laugh from our readers makes it all worth it. Thanks for reading!
