I’ve spent the last couple of days trying to sort out our itinerary for the next six months. We want to save money by booking well in advance. There are a few places where we need to be at certain times: New York in June, for example. Sweden in the spring/winter season. We’ve also started contacting people asking them when a good time to visit would be. All I have to do is connect the dots and book the tickets, right?
I am at my wits end. Why is it, for example, that it is cheaper to fly from Bangkok to Stockholm via Munich and Berlin rather than skipping the stop in Munich? We’d save a hundred bucks by changing planes. Another interesting little hop I’m looking at is getting from Calcutta to Rangoon. There are two flights per week that do the straight route. However, it is far cheaper to fly first to Kuala Lumpur and then to Bangkok and then to Rangoon than the straight shot – a nice four hour detour.
After this trip our carbon footprint will be the size of a small Caribbean nation. I guess we could take the train trough China, Mongolia and Russia instead, but that’s a whole other adventure.
