There’s a bit of a buzz going around the internet right now that it’s not safe to travel in Nepal. No doubt, people remember the bad times a few years ago, when governments came and fell like a revolving door, and when a bloodbath marked the beginning of the end of the Nepalese monarchy.
Today, Nepal is the world’s youngest republic. Sure, there are demonstrations and strikes, but so far they seem to be pretty well-behaved affairs. No one wants to go back to the chaos of years gone by, even though the politics at times stoop to sand-box level. Things may escalate to a pretty high-pitched level, but eventually the feuding factions reach a compromise. Like today, when rumors began to spread that the current conflict is about to be sorted out.
Meanwhile, for those who are thinking about traveling here but are unsure of the political situation: Yes, I do recommend that you come to Nepal. There may be trouble at times, but so far it has never affected the areas you would come in contact with as a tourist. .
