A fairly common racket among the world’s nations is the Visa Extension – paying for the privilege of staying longer in the country. Here in Nepal the process is pretty straightforward: you go to a Kathmandu office where you fill out a simple form, provide a passport size photo, hand over your passport and $30 US. A few hours later, you get to pick up your passport, now complete with a new sticker. Whispering men offer to have the procedure shortened to 20 minutes if you’re willing to hand over an extra ten dollars.
So now we have our extra couple of weeks, of which we’ll probably only need one.
It’s a racket, believe me.
