We touched down yesterday in Myanmar, which is just the third country on this trip, after India and Nepal, that neither of us have been to. Though there’s a certain comfort in returning to places you’ve been to before, seeing something for the first time is the really exciting, slightly scary part about travel that I love.
The heat is still here, but there is considerably less humidity than Bangkok. There is also more clothing – you don’t see much to any leg and shoulders are covered. Both men and women wear longyi (a light sarong) that’s used in place of pants.
We’re staying in the city center, a bustling place with some stunning architecture – which seems to have been gloriously built, then left to slowly crumble. It gives this city a rustic feel that we haven’t seen anywhere else.
So far, so good on the Myanmar front. Up next, checking out their food culture – one of our favorite things to do. Expect a full report.
