Call me a romantic, but I like pretty things. I especially like it when those things have meaning that’s beyond my comprehension. Take Myanmar’s script as an example. I’ve been running around like a crazy woman for two days now taking pictures of Yangon signs. What is probably banal in meaning, such as Johnny’s Paint Shop or No Parking Here, is transformed into little pictures of crouching tigers, toilets and bubbles to the lay English speaker like myself.
We’ve been in Myanmar for four days and I still get a kick out of every sign I see. Is it just me, or is their script super sweet?
