A strange thing happens around day three of touring amazing places: Ambivalence.
It’s a terrible thing to admit, but it’s true. Too much of a good thing is hard for a mind to digest. What were cries to joy and amazement on day one have turned, by day three, to little head nods or hints of a smile. It happened to me in Angkor Wat in 2004 and it’s happened again here in Myanmar.
A great way to stave off the impending ambivalence is to add a little humor to the day. By not taking yourself (or the amazing things you’re seeing) too seriously your sightseeing will continue being enjoyable.
Messing around in Angkor Wat
What you also get is a little added bonus: more often than not, it’s the silly photos that are the most fun to look at when you get home. So go ahead – act like a fool sometimes – it’ll make those temples/monuments/statues/ruins far more memorable.
