My mother in law is here. A dark, ominous cloud hang above us.
No. It’s not like that. It’s just that we’re now affected by the same thing as millions of other people around the world: the volcanic ash cloud above. You know the one – it has caused most of Europe to close its airspace, and media has talked about little else for the past five days. My mother in law was set to fly back to California tomorrow, and we have been hoping that she can make her flight without problems.
While we try to keep track of the latest developments using 10,000 websites and all available phone lines, the eventual outcome depends on things that we really can’t influence. The latest news over here is that another ash cloud is on the way in from the west, but at the same time things are looking “not totally hopeless” for tomorrow. The tickets have been bought, and all we can do is wait.
Meanwhile, we’ll have one more dinner together. My Mom’s made the World’s Best Cod Dish, the wine is chilled and you know: life isn’t too bad here under the shadow of Eyjafjallajökull.
